Oh the Crazies.

I am constantly entertained by strange people doing strange things. Sometimes these people use their power of insanity for evil (Oprah, Jenny McCarthy, etc.) and inflicting harm upon others. Sometimes the crazies are harmless however, that's why I love this story. A man is attempting to sue a Casino because it gave him bad Feng Shui. For those of you unaware of what Feng Shui is, it's the ancient Chinese art of furniture arrangement. Read more about this crazy tale: Dude, Don't Harsh My Feng Shui.

But returning to the dark side of crazy news it appears the mainstream media is being to wake up and pay attention to the tales of lunacy and psudeo-medical advice. First Newsweek took on Oprah in a cover story, now Salon goes after her the in Oprah's Bad Medicine.

Of course the Queen of Mid-Afternoon Quackery was not about to sit around silently while serious medical professionals and journalists attempted to warn the public about her dangerous health claims. Oprah released this statement:

For 23 years, my show has presented thousands of topics that reflect the human experience, including doctors’ medical advice and personal health stories that have prompted conversations between our audience members and their health care providers. I trust the viewers, and I know that they are smart and discerning enough to seek out medical opinions to determine what may be best for them.

Ugh. Not good enough. Oprah was just provided with the chance to take a serious look at the pseudo-science she's been pushing and perhaps even use this opportunity to re-examine such matters. She's given a platform to nutjerbs like McCarthy for too long, never providing more the most minimal amount of token skepticism one can get away with. Furthermore I doubt her viewers do more research. Really, these are the same people that send poorly written books to the top of the best seller list just because Oprah tells them to read it. When Oprah says jump, they jump without question. She's spent the past 23 years training an audience of cowardly sheep to cling to her every word without the slightest hint at critical thinking.

Oprah's just circling the wagons getting ready for the what is gearing up to possibly be a media onslaught. We've finally got her on the defensive. With a well sustained attacked it might just be possible to flatten her army of pseudo-science once and for all. It will be a long battle and the media needs to be prepared to stay indefinitely if there is any hope at all in crushing this tyrannical beast. It might not be likely this will happen, but it is possible.
